Who's who in Kenyan Fashion: ZARAMU

It's been a while since we were back on our blog since the successful edition last year. As we wait for the FALL edition this October, we look forward to having the best line up of designers ever. Since they have heard about NFM as the ideal brand platform, we look forward to hosting them.

Until then, I thought it would be fun and informative to let you know, what kind of talent is out there. Every month, I will feature a couple of designers and reveal some of their talent to you...Enjoy! You can contact them thereafter if you so wish. I'd like nothing more than to share the information. I'll keep it short and sweet, just an intro. Charity begins at home so lets begin with our very own Zaramu.
Here's to seeing more of you!

What's your name?
My name is Lila Barker, I'm a Fashion Designer.

Why did you choose to design?
I always had this interest for designing and making clothes from a very early age. In fact, back then in the 80's I made all my clothes and was quite a popular fashionista at that. So I started getting requests from my friends and relatives, and there I was....a trend setter. I created dresses for them and from then on, it's always been my passion, except I turned it into a business.

What or who is your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from nature itself, the origin of patterns, designs and colours. The colours always inspire me to make something beautiful to reflect all these beautiful shades. Another inspiration comes from my children for their love of fashion.

Do you generate income?
Yes I do. It is growing to be a productive profession.

What's Zaramu's style?
Chic and modern for the young, stylish but sophisticated and decent for the mature.

Who are your customers?
Just about all ages

Have you showcased before?
Yes. I've had the opportunity to showcase several times at NFM, and I've featured in several newspaper articles and TV interviews as a result. Not to mention the repeat customers I got. I believe showcasing is one of the best marketing tools, how else is your market going to see how the garments fall on a figure?

How do we find you?
At Leeban Estate. Nairobi South C.
